Brainspotting

Pasadena Villa Tree Icon 2

Brainspotting works by identifying, processing, and releasing sources of emotional and physical pain, trauma, dissociation, and other challenging symptoms.

Brainspotting at Pasadena Villa

This therapeutic technique uses specific eye positions to help process trauma and other emotional issues. Based on the idea that where you look affects how you feel, brainspotting focuses on specific spots in your visual field to access and process difficult emotions and experiences.

What is brainspotting?

Developed in 2003 by David Grand, PhD, brainspotting engages the brain and body through its direct access to the autonomic and limbic systems within the body’s central nervous system. Although it’s only a few decades old, this physiological tool has demonstrated profound psychological, emotional, and physical effects.

Brainspotting focuses on a single, fixed eye position, is more flexible and client-led than EMDR, and doesn’t include any talk therapy.

How does brainspotting work?

Brainspotting is a focused treatment method that uses eye positioning to process difficult emotions and unresolved traumatic experiences. While it may appear similar to EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), brainspotting stands out for its flexible, client-directed approach, using a single, focused eye position and offering a nonverbal path to healing without the need for traditional talk therapy.
