At Pasadena Villa, our intensive outpatient program (IOP) can be a natural step down from a partial-hospitalization program (PHP), as well as a step up from traditional outpatient treatment. An IOP can be an excellent option for individuals who are experiencing an increase in distressing mental health symptoms and behaviors or those who are not progressing in traditional therapy.

Comprehensive, convenient IOP treatment in day, evening, and virtual formats.
The IOP provides structured, comprehensive treatment utilizing group settings and a variety of evidence-based therapies. However, it differs from residential treatment and PHP in frequency and duration. Clients attend programming for a minimum of three hours each day, anywhere from three to five days per week. This schedule allows for flexibility around work, class schedules, family, and other obligations.

FAQs
Questions about IOP
What is an intensive outpatient program?
The word “hospitalization” can be misleading. Our PHP offers a less intensive level of care than residential treatment, providing more freedom and less monitoring. PHP can include housing or be offered on an outpatient basis, with morning and afternoon programming. This treatment focuses on continued education and support in a structured environment, helping clients progress in their recovery while offering more flexibility than residential care.
What is the average length of stay for IOP?
Each client’s time in IOP is tailored to their personal goals and progress, with the care team helping determine the most appropriate length of stay.
Who is IOP right for?
Our IOP is ideal for individuals stepping down from residential or PHP treatment, those needing more support than traditional therapy provides, or those requiring a flexible option that allows them to balance treatment with family, work, or personal responsibilities.

Payment + Insurance
Pasadena Villa works with insurance providers on an in-network and out-of-network basis to help reduce treatment costs and maximize benefits. The admissions team provides benefit verification to clarify financial responsibilities based on each client’s plan — because understanding coverage shouldn’t be another source of stress.
Please note we do not accept Medicare or Medicaid.
Coverage varies by provider and policy.
“When I first got into the program, I was skeptical because I’d been to an IOP before and it was not as beneficial. However, in just two weeks, I feel I gained more knowledge about myself and more life skills than I had anywhere else. If you’re struggling and are wondering where to seek help, I would 100% suggest Pasadena Villa Knoxville.”
