FAQs
The different levels of care for mental health treatment
What is inpatient treatment?
Inpatient treatment provides intensive, structured treatment in a hospital or a specialized psychiatric facility. This level of care is designed for individuals who require 24/7 monitoring and support due to severe mental health conditions, crises, or risks to their own safety or the safety of others.
*Pasadena Villa does not offer inpatient treatment.
What is residential treatment?
Residential treatment is a highly structured, live-in therapeutic program that provides intensive, long-term support for people struggling with significant mental health challenges. Unlike inpatient treatment, which is typically short-term and focused on crisis stabilization, residential treatment emphasizes voluntary ongoing care and recovery in a less restrictive environment.
What is a partial hospitalization program (PHP)?
A PHP is a structured and intensive mental health treatment program that provides comprehensive care during the day, typically five days a week, allowing participants to return home or to a supportive living environment in the evenings.
What is a partial hospitalization program (PHP) with housing?
A PHP with housing provides structured, intensive treatment during the day, typically five days a week, and gives program participants a safe and supportive living environment near the PHP location.
What is an intensive outpatient program (IOP)?
An IOP is a structured and time-limited treatment program designed for individuals who need more support than traditional outpatient therapy. IOPs often have day and/or evening program options, usually totaling 9-12 hours per week.
What are outpatient services?
Outpatient treatment is a flexible, accessible level of care that allows individuals to receive therapy and other mental health services while continuing to live at home and maintain their daily routines. Suitable for individuals with mild to moderate mental health conditions or those transitioning out of more intensive levels of care. This treatment option is often tailored to fit the individual’s schedule.
